A Pair of Bronze Relief Stations of the Cross Plaques - A pair of cast bronze or copper alloy relief sculptures depicting the First and Eleventh Stations of the Cross. The reliefs are set within a traditional Gothic quatrefoil frame surrounded by a raised circular border. The first relief represents the scene where Jesus is condemned to death, with the cast inscription I STATION at the top and JESUS - IS - CONDEMNED - TO - DEATH along the bottom edge. The second relief depicts Jesus being nailed to the cross, inscribed with XI STATION at the top and JESUS - IS - NAILED - TO - THE - CROSS at the bottom. Both plaques feature figures rendered in medium relief with a dark brown patina. One plaque is mounted to a shaped, yellow-toned wooden backing. The second plaque is unmounted, revealing a flat-cast reverse with remnants of previous mounting materials and adhesive. Small circular apertures at the corners of the cast frames are intended for mounting screws, several of which remain in place. Plaque with mount: 12 x 12 x 1 inches Unmounted plaque: 9.5 x 9.5 x 0.5 inches. The plaques exhibit wear consistent with age and use. There is visible green verdigris oxidation within the recessed details of the unmounted plaque. The brown patina shows rubbing and thinning on the highest points of the relief. The wooden mount for the XI Station plaque has a significant vertical split running through the center. Surface grime, dust, and minor scratches are present on both pieces. Some original mounting screws are missing.
