Bidspirit auction | A Pair of Gothic Revival
A Pair of Gothic Revival Brass Seven-Light Adjustable Altar Candelabra - A pair of cast brass seven-light altar candelabra in the Gothic Revival style. Each piece is constructed as a standing cross with trefoil (three-lobed) terminals at the ends of the arms and a central radiating sunburst motif at the intersection. The candelabra feature seven candle cups: one at the top, two on the horizontal crossbeam, one at the center intersection, and three arranged along the lower vertical/diagonal section. The horizontal arms are adjustable, allowing the crossbeam to be positioned at different angles. The cast metal of the cross features a textured, hammered-effect surface. The central stem is decorated with a barley twist or spiral design and stands on a tiered, circular domed base. The undersides of the bases are weighted with iron plates. No manufacturer marks or signatures are present. Height: 11.5 inches Width: 9 inches. Both candelabra show signs of significant age and use, including widespread surface tarnish and loss of the original gold-colored finish. Scattered spots of green verdigris oxidation are visible, particularly concentrated within the interiors of the candle cups. The iron weight plates on the undersides are heavily rusted. Several candle cups and frame components exhibit slight misalignments from their original intended positions.
