US Navy Officer Full Dress Bicorne Hat by Hilborn-Hamburger Inc. - A mid-20th century United States Navy officer's full-dress bicorne hat, manufactured by Hilborn-Hamburger Inc. of New York. The body is constructed from black beaver felt or silk plush with long, pointed fans. The edges of the peaks are trimmed with wide gold bullion wire lace featuring a foliate pattern. The right side of the hat features a pleated black silk cockade, overlaid with two bars of gold bullion lace. Small black silk ribbon bows are located at the front and back peaks. The interior is finished with a cream-colored pleated satin lining and includes a leather sweatband. The interior crown is stamped in gold with the text Featherweight-Formfit, Registered, Hilborn-Hamburger Inc., Mfrs., New York. Overall Length: 16.5 inches Height: 5 inches Interior Opening: 7.5 to 8 inches. Fair to poor condition. There is substantial loss to the nap of the black felt surface, resulting in large visible patches of the base fabric. The gold bullion lace is heavily tarnished. The interior leather sweatband is brittle, cracked, and completely detached from the hat body. The satin lining exhibits age-related staining and fraying.
