Antique American Dated 1905 Hand-Stitched Crazy Quilt Signed Gladys - An antique American crazy quilt featuring irregular patchwork within square blocks. The quilt is constructed from a variety of textile fragments including printed cotton calicoes, stripes, checks, figured silks, and likely wool or velvet. Individual patches are joined with decorative embroidery, including feather and herringbone stitching in light-colored thread. The piece is tied with red yarn throughout. One cream-colored patch features the embroidered date 1905, and a blue-striped patch is embroidered with the name Gladys. The quilt is backed with a dark navy blue cotton fabric printed with a large-scale floral and ribbon pattern in shades of orange and green. Length: 76.5 inches Width: 65 inches. The quilt shows significant signs of age and use. Prominent brown staining and foxing are present across many light-colored patches and on the floral backing. Several silk patches exhibit characteristic shattering with splitting and fabric loss. Wear and fraying are visible along the edges and binding. Some decorative embroidery has come loose or is missing.
