Antique Hawkes Etched Glass Oil and Vinegar Cruet - A single antique glass cruet featuring a ground-glass stopper, crafted from Hawkes glass. The vessel is designed for tabletop use, intended to hold both oil and vinegar. The bottle has a cylindrical body that flares slightly toward a weighted, circular base, with a wide, ground-glass neck and a flared, scalloped rim. The body is decorated with fine acid-etched or wheel-engraved ornamentation. Near the shoulder, the word Oil is rendered in a Gothic-style script. Near the base, the word Vinegar appears in matching script. Between the two words is a central floral motif featuring a five-petaled flower surrounded by fern-like fronds. Two horizontal cut lines encircle the body, framing the central decoration. The original stopper is present, featuring a flattened circular top with a frosted, etched daisy motif and a precision-ground plug. On the underside of the base, there is a faint, circular acid-etched mark consisting of three overlapping circles arranged in a trefoil pattern containing a fleur-de-lis, a stemmed glass or goblet, and a decanter. Height: 8 inches Base Diameter: 2.5 inches. The cruet is in good antique condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible on the rim, base, or stopper. There is internal cloudiness and mineral residue visible near the base, consistent with historical use for oil and vinegar. Minor shelf wear is present on the underside of the base.
