Sally Patchin Hand Painted Large Basket - This Sally Patchin hand painted large basket is constructed from woven split cane or similar plant fibers in a checkerboard weave with a thick, bound rim. The interior well features a hand-painted scene depicting multiple birds among green foliage and trailing blue floral clusters. The blue pigment is applied with a thick, impasto-like texture. Visible hand-painted inscriptions are located in the upper portion of the scene, with the character m on the left and Alberta on the right. The reverse of the piece shows a naturally darkened patina with a metal wire attached for hanging. Diameter: 26 inches. The basket is in fair condition with age-appropriate wear to the woven fibers, including minor fraying at the rim. The painted surface shows areas of pigment loss and flaking, particularly in the raised blue sections. The reverse displays a natural patina consistent with age.
