A Seven-Piece Set of Italian Hand-Painted Earthenware Plates in the Medieval Style - A seven-piece set of Italian hand-painted earthenware plates consisting of one large circular charger and six smaller side plates. The pieces are decorated in the maiolica style with a white tin-glaze and hand-painted figures in turquoise, black, and manganese brown. Each plate depicts a unique stylized figure in medieval dress, such as a harpist, an archer, or a crowned attendant. The borders are decorated with a turquoise diamond-hatch ground and four white floral cartouches with black centers. All pieces feature a scalloped rim. The reverse of the large charger is marked with a stylized cross emblem, ITALY, and 4151/1/A. The smaller plates are marked ITALY and 4151/1/B. Charger diameter: 14.5 inches Side plate diameter: 8.5 inches. The glaze shows fine, overall age-related crazing. Several small chips are present along the scalloped rims of multiple plates, revealing the underlying buff-colored earthenware body. No significant cracks or repairs are visible.
