National Casket Company Silver Plated Catholic Sick Call Last Rites Set Circa 1923 - A portable Catholic sick call (Viaticum) set manufactured by the National Casket Company. The set is housed in its original black textured travel case with metal corner reinforcements and a leather handle. The interior is lined with a purple velvet-clad presentation board. The set includes a silver-plated crucifix featuring a corpus and an INRI scroll, a silver-plated oval tray with two integrated circular candle holders and a slot to hold the crucifix upright, and a pair of ruby red faceted glass votive candle holders. The underside of the metal tray is stamped PATENTED DECEMBER 18-1923 and E S 513. The base of each ruby glass holder is embossed THE NATIONAL CASKET COMPANY USA. The metal components are constructed of silver-plated base metal, showing the darker metal substrate where plating has worn away. Case Dimensions: 12 x 11.5 inches. The set is in fair antique condition showing significant signs of age and use. The silver-plated tray and crucifix exhibit extensive plating loss, surface oxidation, and tarnish. The exterior of the case shows heavy wear, including abrasions and oxidation to the metal hardware and corner guards. The purple velvet interior shows fading and minor wear. The ruby glass votive holders appear to be in good condition without visible cracks or chips.
