Adlake Reliable Railroad Lantern Delaware and Hudson Company D and H Co - This Adams and Westlake (Adlake) Reliable model railroad lantern was produced for the Delaware and Hudson Company. The top cap is stamped with The Adams and Westlake Company Chicago New York. The brim is embossed with D & H Co and includes patent dates of May 28 95, May 5 1908, and Jan 26 1909. The lantern features a tall-globe design with a protective wire cage and a top bail handle for carrying. The clear glass globe is embossed with cursive script reading D & H Co over the year 1914. It also bears a circular mark with a C inside, identifying the glass manufacturer as Corning. The internal fount and burner assembly is removable and embossed with Long Time Burning Oil Only. The frame is constructed of metal, likely tin-plated steel, and maintains its original structural configuration. Height to top of cap: 10 inches Height with bail handle extended: 15 inches Base diameter: 7 inches. The lantern exhibits a dark, aged patina with significant surface oxidation and pitting across the metal frame, bail, and base consistent with industrial railroad use. The glass globe remains intact without cracks or chips, though it shows some internal soot and surface grime. The removable burner assembly is present and shows signs of previous use including carbon deposits.
