Italian Model 1891/38 Carcano Folding Bayonet and Scabbard - An Italian Model 1891/38 (M38) folding bayonet and its accompanying scabbard, designed for use with the Carcano M38 short rifle. The bayonet features a folding steel blade with a single fuller and a spear point. The hilt is constructed with a steel crossguard incorporating a muzzle ring, a spring-loaded release button for the folding mechanism, and two-piece wood grip scales secured by two screws. The steel pommel bears a stamped mark consisting of a vertical line on the left and a curved line on the right within a rectangular outline, resembling a stylized letter D. The scabbard is of all-steel construction and includes an integral belt clip on the reverse side secured by a single screw. Total length (unfolded): 11.5 inches Blade length: 7 inches Scabbard length: 7.5 inches. The item is in fair to good surplus condition with an untouched, heavy patina across all metal surfaces. The blade is covered in a layer of darkened, dried protective grease and exhibits areas of surface oxidation. The wood grip scales show significant service wear, including darkening, scratches, and small indentations. The steel scabbard displays a mottled dark patina with surface oxidation and light pitting. The folding and locking mechanism remains functional.
