Vintage Woodfield's Fresh Oysters 1-Gallon Lithographed Tin, Galesville, Maryland - This is a vintage 1-gallon lithographed tin for Woodfield's Fresh Oysters, produced for the Woodfield Fish & Oyster Co. based in Galesville, Maryland. The tin features a yellow background with red and green lithography. The central graphic depicts a two-masted schooner sailing near a lighthouse with seagulls overhead. The front panel includes the text Woodfield's Fresh Oysters, See Top For Size Designation, Packed By Woodfield Fish & Oyster Co, Planters and Shippers, and Galesville, MD. One side panel is printed vertically with the instruction Keep Well Iced in red lettering. The rear panel displays Net Cont. 1 U.S. Liq. Gal. and a large MD. 81 designation. Two circular organization logos are present on the back: the Oyster Institute of North America Member with a 1935 copyright date and the National Fisheries Institute Inc. The base seam is marked Ind. Can. The top lid is stamped with the words Oysters and Standards. Height: Approximately 7.5 inches Diameter: Approximately 6.5 inches. The tin is in used, vintage condition. Significant oxidation and rust are present on the top lid, bottom base, and along the upper and lower rims. The lithographed surface shows scattered scuffing, scratches, and spots of pitting and corrosion throughout. The interior contains heavy dark, dried organic residue and extensive oxidation. The structural integrity is maintained despite minor surface denting consistent with age and use.
