WWII Original Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale MVSN Blackshirts Eagle Head Dagger - This is a mid-20th-century Italian military sidearm identified as a Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale MVSN Blackshirts dagger. This model features a distinct stylized eagle-head pommel and was a standard dress and combat sidearm for the Italian fascist paramilitary organization during the WWII era. The hilt is constructed of a cast non-ferrous metal alloy, featuring a single downturned crossguard quillon. The grip is composed of two plain wooden scales secured to the tang by two flush rivets. The steel blade is a slender spear-point style with a single edge and a short false edge near the tip. The matching steel scabbard features a ball-tipped finial and two brass-colored bands, each fitted with a suspension ring for dress wear. The scabbard throat is secured to the body by two small flat-head screws. No legible maker marks, manufacturer symbols, or unit stamps are visible on the blade ricasso or hilt components. Total length: 11.5 inches Blade length: 6.5 inches. The dagger and scabbard are in poor to fair condition. The steel blade shows significant surface darkening, heavy oxidation, and localized pitting throughout, with numerous longitudinal scratches from past cleaning attempts. The zinc-alloy hilt exhibits extensive oxidation and zinc pest, characterized by a grey, bubbling, and pitted surface texture. The wooden grip scales are intact and well-seated but show age-related drying and wear. The scabbard is in poor condition with heavy surface rust and pitting; much of the original black finish has been lost. The brass bands and rings show a dark, aged patina.
