Villeroy and Boch Mettlach PUG Ceramic Beer Stein with Humorous Tavern Scene - A cylindrical ceramic beer stein produced by Villeroy and Boch at the Mettlach factory. The body features a print-under-glaze (PUG) tavern scene depicting a seated man being attended to by a woman in traditional dress, with a wall clock and framed landscape in the background. The scene is accompanied by a four-line German verse in Fraktur script which translates to: The money is gone, the pocket is empty / Hostess, have patience / Until I return here once more / I remain in your debt. The vessel has a half-liter capacity indicated by a 1/2 L mark near the handle. It is fitted with a hinged pewter lid with a decorative finial and thumb lift. The base features the Villeroy and Boch VB cartouche mark over form number 1526, a partial circular stamp containing the word GESCHÜTZT, and an impressed number 929. Additional small impressed marks and a dark underglaze painter's mark are present. The item shows fine, consistent crazing throughout the glazed ceramic body. The pewter lid and hinge are intact and functional, showing a natural aged patina and minor surface oxidation. No major chips, cracks, or professional repairs are visible.
