Antique Mettlach Etched Beer Stein #2057 Peasant Dance - This German beer stein was manufactured by the Villeroy and Boch Mettlach factory and is identified as mold number 2057. It features the etched decoration technique for which the factory is highly regarded. The central frieze depicts a lively scene of peasants in traditional folk dress dancing and drinking against a reddish-brown ground. The scene is framed by decorative geometric bands in green and cream at the top and base of the cylinder. The vessel is equipped with a pewter lid featuring a shell-style thumb lift and an integrated ceramic inlay that displays a central beer mug motif surrounded by hops and barley. The handle is a simple glazed loop. The base bears several incised markings including the Mettlach castle trademark, the word GESCHUTZT, the mold number 2057, the Roman numeral III, the date code 00 representing the year 1900, and the number 19. Overall height: 9 inches Body height: 7 inches. The item is in very good antique condition. The ceramic body and lid inlay show no visible chips, cracks, crazing, or signs of restoration. The pewter lid is securely attached with a functional hinge and exhibits a natural aged patina. The interior is clean and well-preserved.
