An Assortment of Four German and English Steins and Mugs - This lot features four ceramic vessels including three lidded beer steins and one handle-mounted mug. The largest item is a relief-decorated stoneware stein with multicolored figures in traditional alpine and hunting attire set against a cobalt blue ground. The body is decorated with relief scenes and includes the German text Auf der Alm. It features a rustic handle modeled after tree bark and a domed pewter lid with an ornamental shell-style thumb lift. The base is impressed with the characters WESTERN and a stylized symbol. The second item is a mustard-yellow glazed ceramic mug with silver-tone metallic luster trim on the upper and lower rims. It displays transfer-print imagery of a soldier on horseback titled Officer of the 16th Lancers, 1833 and a military standard with a plumed helmet on the reverse. The base is stamped with a circular mark reading MADE IN ENGLAND. The third piece is a small souvenir lidded stein with multicolored relief decoration depicting an alpine chalet and figures. The central medallion text reads Auf der Alm / ist es schön. It is fitted with a simple metal lid and the base is incised GERMANY. The fourth item is a gray stoneware stein produced for the North German Lloyd shipping line. It features blue printed graphics including the company logo with an anchor and key, the text NORTH GERMAN LLOYD CRUISES OF DISTINCTION, and identifies the vessel as the T.S. BREMEN. It has a domed pewter lid with a shell-motif thumb lift. The base features several markings including the blue-printed numbers 330, a blue stamp reading MADE IN GERMANY, an incised character A, and a small impressed circular mark containing the letter R. The lot is in overall good condition. The large German relief stein shows light oxidation to the pewter lid and minor shelf wear to the base. The English equestrian mug exhibits significant fine-line crazing throughout the yellow glaze, along with wear and thinning to the silver luster rims and some fading to the transfer graphics. The small souvenir stein displays light tarnish to the metal lid. The North German Lloyd shipping line stein shows surface oxidation and tarnish on the pewter lid and typical light shelf wear to the unglazed foot ring.
