Bidspirit auction | A Pair of Roycroft Arts
A Pair of Roycroft Arts and Crafts Hammered Copper Trefoil Bookends - This matched pair of L-shaped desk bookends was produced by the Roycroft Copper Shop in East Aurora, New York. Each piece is constructed from hand-hammered copper featuring a rich, aged patina. The vertical face of each bookend is decorated with a centrally placed, repoussé stylized floral motif resembling a trefoil or four-leaf clover on a slender stem. The top and side edges are decoratively scalloped from the hammering process, and the base of each piece features a tight cylindrical roll at the front edge. The horizontal base of each bookend bears the stamped Roycroft hallmark, consisting of a double-barred patriarchal cross positioned above an orb containing a stylized letter R. Height: 3.75 inches Width: 2.75 inches. The bookends are in good antique condition with an authentic aged patina. Surface wear is consistent with age and use, including minor scuffs, light scratches, and small areas of oxidation. One bookend shows a small patch of white residue on the upper surface of the horizontal base plate. The hammered edges and decorative motifs remain well-defined.
