Persian Hand-Painted Miniature Portrait Pendant in the Style of Avicenna - This is a hand-painted miniature portrait pendant of Persian origin. The rectangular plaque features a profile portrait of a bearded man wearing a turban, an artistic style associated with Persian (Qajar or Safavid) or Ottoman miniature painting. Web research suggests the subject is likely meant to represent the Persian polymath Avicenna (Abu Ali Ibn Abdallah Ibn Sina) or a classical poet. The painting is executed with fine detailing on a light-colored substrate, likely bone or mother-of-pearl, and is finished with a clear protective glaze. The plaque is housed in a silver-toned metal frame with an applied twisted wire rope border. The reverse of the pendant is a plain metal plate. No hallmarks, signatures, or maker's marks were found upon inspection. Weight: 0.130 ozt Dimensions: Approximately 1 inch (height of plaque). The pendant is in good vintage condition. The protective glaze shows significant fine crazing and slight yellowing consistent with age. There are visible small losses to the white pigment on the turban area. A small dark inclusion is trapped under the glaze near the top right corner. The metal frame and bail exhibit natural oxidation and surface tarnishing.
