Antique Victorian Style Sterling Silver Whistle and Mother of Pearl Baby Rattle Teether - This antique nursery item functions as a combined baby rattle, sterling whistle, and teether. It features a broad, carved mother-of-pearl handle used as a cooling teether, which is fitted into a decorative silver mount. The metalwork displays ornate repoussé scrollwork in the Rococo Revival style. A functional whistle is integrated into the top of the silver mount. Two small suspension loops are located on the sides, which were originally designed to hold bells. There are two small circular punch marks located on the silver mount near the upper edge, though the characters within them are not clearly legible for definitive identification. Length: Approximately 3.5 inches Weight: 0.847 ozt. The item is in good antique condition with wear consistent with age and use. The silver mount shows surface tarnish and fine scratches. The mother-of-pearl handle is intact with minor surface abrasions and natural variations in the shell. The two original silver bells are missing from the side loops. The whistle remains functional.
