Art Deco Sterling Silver and Black Onyx Neoclassical Cameo Centerpiece - This octagonal jewelry element features a carved white shell or hardstone cameo depicting a neoclassical female bust in profile. The bust is detailed with ornate curls, a diadem, a pearl-style necklace with a pendant drop, and draped garments. The carved portion is applied to a dark, beveled base, likely black onyx or dyed chalcedony. The piece is set in a sterling silver frame with clipped corners and a scrolling, embossed border. The reverse of the silver mounting is stamped STERLING. Small loops on the left and right sides, along with a partial hinge assembly on the reverse, indicate the piece was originally intended as a bracelet centerpiece or a brooch. Length: 1.25 inches. Fair antique condition with signs of age and wear. The silver frame and backing show significant tarnish and surface oxidation. The white carved portion of the cameo has visible hairline fractures across the neck and jawline. There is an accumulation of dirt in the crevices of the carving and scattered specks of blue pigment across the surface. The pin stem and catch mechanism are missing.
