Bidspirit auction | A Collection of US Buffalo
A Collection of US Buffalo Five-Cent Coins - A group of US copper-nickel five-cent coins, identified as the Buffalo or Indian Head nickel series. This assortment includes specimens with legible dates as well as several specimens where the date has been worn smooth. Visible dates on two coins include 1935 and 1937. One 1937 specimen features a D mint mark on the reverse below the denomination, signifying its production at the Denver Mint. These coins consist of a copper-nickel alloy composed of 75 percent copper and 25 percent nickel. The obverse design features a right-facing Native American profile, and the reverse depicts an American bison standing on a mound. The coins are in heavily circulated condition, exhibiting significant wear across the high points of the designs. Several specimens have dates that are partially or completely worn away. Surface characteristics include scattered contact marks, scratches, and dark toning in the recessed areas. One specimen exhibits visible patches of green verdigris oxidation on the reverse surface.
