1953 CA Five-Cent Coin Struck on Straight Clipped Planchet - CA five-cent coin dated 1953. This dodecagonal specimen is struck in nickel and exhibits a significant mint error, having been struck on an incomplete planchet resulting in a straight clip along the rim. The obverse features the laureate bust of Elizabeth II facing right with the legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA. The reverse displays a beaver on a rock with the denomination 5 CENTS, the country name CANADA, and the date 1953. The designer initials K.G. for George Kruger Gray are visible. The coin is presented in a vintage 2x2 cardboard holder with handwritten notations identifying the error as STRUCK ON AN INCOMPLETE PLANCHET and providing provenance to James A. Riley of Madison, Wisconsin. Diameter: 21.21 mm. Extremely fine condition. The coin retains much of its original mint luster with only light surface wear on the high points of the design. Localized dark toning is visible along the rim and within the lettering.
