A Collection of Canadian Banknotes Including 1900 25-Cent Fractional Notes and 1937 One Dollar Bills - This collection of Canadian currency consists of fractional notes issued by the Dominion of Canada and one-dollar banknotes issued by the Bank of Canada. The fractional currency, commonly known as shinplasters, are twenty-five cent denominations dated January 2, 1900 (Pick #9). These notes feature a seated figure of Britannia with a trident and shield on the obverse and bear the signatures of either J.M. Courtney or H. Boville as Deputy Minister of Finance. The one-dollar banknotes are from the 1937 bilingual series (Pick #58), featuring a central portrait of King George VI in military uniform. These notes are signed by J.E. Coyne and G.F. Towers. The serial numbers for the one-dollar notes are N/N 5312092, M/N 9571148, and M/X 4111988. The reverse of the one-dollar notes displays an allegorical scene representing Agriculture. All items are presented in raw, uncertified condition. Approximate width of one-dollar banknote: 6 inches. The collection is in circulated condition, generally ranging from Poor to Very Good. All notes exhibit multiple vertical and horizontal folds, significant surface soiling, and foxing. The 1900 twenty-five cent fractional notes show advanced wear, including severe edge fraying, tears, and missing sections of paper along the margins and corners. One-dollar note M/X 4111988 has a notable tear and paper loss at the bottom center margin. The paper across the collection is toned and lacks original crispness.
