American Mint 2012 RMS Titanic 100th Anniversary 70mm Commemorative Medallion - A large private-issue commemorative medallion produced by American Mint to mark the centennial of the RMS Titanic. The piece is struck in silver-plated copper with selective gold-plating and color application. The obverse features a gold-plated depiction of the ship at sea with the inscription RMS TITANIC set against a mirror-like proof field. The reverse is inscribed 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TITANIC and WHITE STAR LINE above a central colorized rectangular inset depicting an IN MEMORIAM postcard. This inset includes historical portraits of Captain E.J. Smith and wireless operator Jack Phillips. Below the inset is a frosted map detailing the transatlantic route from Southampton and Cherbourg to New York. The medallion is housed in a protective plastic capsule and is accompanied by the original technical specification sheet and a Certificate of Authenticity numbered 00014 from a limited edition of 1,912 pieces. The medallion remains well-preserved within its capsule, showing highly reflective fields and no signs of toning, spotting, or handling wear.
