1957 CA 1 Cent Mint Error Struck on Half Planchet - This 1957 Canada 1 cent coin is a bronze alloy mint error struck on a split planchet before strike, commonly referred to as a half planchet. The obverse features the Elizabeth II laureate portrait design. The reverse features the maple leaf design. The coin is housed in a vintage cardboard and plastic window flip with handwritten notations identifying the piece as STRUCK ON 1/2 A PLANCHET and bearing the name ARPIN -. Due to the reduced thickness of the planchet, the strike is significantly weaker than a standard circulation strike, resulting in shallow relief and faint design elements. The surface texture is dark and porous, characteristic of the internal grain exposed by a planchet split. The coin exhibits an extremely weak strike as a result of the planchet error, with faint design details and legends on both the obverse and reverse. The surface is dark-toned with a porous texture. No evidence of post-mint damage or cleaning is observed.
