US 1850 Braided Hair Large Cent with Post-Mint Alteration - This US struck copper Braided Hair Large Cent was produced at the Philadelphia Mint in 1850. The obverse features the Braided Hair Liberty head design with thirteen stars. The reverse displays the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and a laurel wreath. This specific specimen has been subject to post-minting manual alteration of the central denomination, where the original ONE CENT lettering has been tooled to read O CUNT. The coin is held in a 2x2 cardboard and mylar coin flip. The coin shows heavy circulation wear and a dark brown copper patina. Surface grime is visible in the recesses of the design. The reverse displays intentional surface damage resulting from the manual tooling of the inscription.
