Spanish Silver 5 Pesetas Coin Brooch Dated 1870 - This brooch is fashioned from a silver 5 Pesetas coin issued by the Spanish Provisional Government in 1870. The coin face features a reclining allegorical figure of Hispania holding an olive branch with the Pyrenees mountains in the distance. It is inscribed ESPAÑA at the top and 1870 at the base. Small letters L.M. for designer Luis Marchionni are visible above the date to the left. The reverse of the coin features the Spanish coat of arms flanked by the Pillars of Hercules with scrolls inscribed PLUS and ULTRA. The upper rim is inscribed LEY 900 MILESIMAS * 40 PIEZAS EN KILOG. and the bottom rim 5 PESETAS. Assay marks SN M are located on either side of the denomination. The coin is struck in .900 fine silver. A T-bar hinge and C-clasp are soldered to the obverse side of the coin. Weight: 0.826 troy ounces. The coin exhibits moderate wear and surface scratches consistent with circulation. Significant tarnish and solder residue are visible around the brooch hardware attachment points on the obverse. The pin stem is slightly bent.
