Bidspirit auction | A Collection of US Buffalo

A Collection of US Buffalo Nickels - A collection of US Buffalo nickels, also known as Indian Head nickels, with a denomination of five cents. These coins are composed of a copper-nickel alloy. The obverse design features the right-facing profile of a Native American with the inscription LIBERTY and the mintage date on the lower shoulder. Visible dates in this group include 1924, 1936, and 1937, while several other specimens have heavily worn, illegible date areas. The reverse design depicts an American bison standing on a mound with the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM above the bison and the denomination FIVE CENTS at the base. These examples appear to be Philadelphia issues without mint marks, though some exhibit wear in the mint mark area. These coins represent the Type 2 design with the bison standing on a recessed line or mound. The coins exhibit various stages of circulation wear. Grades range from Good with flattened details and partial dates to Fine where some hair and bison fur detail remains. Several coins show significant wear to the date area, a common characteristic of this series. The surfaces show typical gray-metallic toning and minor contact marks consistent with circulated currency. No major environmental damage or cleaning is evident.
