1940-S US Lincoln Wheat Cent Mint Error Off-Center Strike - This 1940-S US Lincoln Wheat Cent is a mint error featuring an off-center strike estimated at approximately 15 percent toward the 1 o'clock position. Struck at the San Francisco Mint in a composition of 95 percent copper and 5 percent tin and zinc, the coin features the Lincoln portrait on the obverse and the Wheat Cent reverse design. The misalignment has shifted the die impressions toward the upper right, leaving a blank crescent on the planchet at the lower left and truncating portions of the inscriptions IN GOD WE TRUST and LIBERTY. The date 1940 and the S mint mark remain clearly visible. The coin is housed in a vintage cardboard 2x2 holder with handwritten collector notations including 1940S-1c, EF, 1/8 K+, and star symbols. Diameter: 19 mm. The coin is in extremely fine condition, exhibiting moderate wear on the high points of Lincoln's portrait and the kernels of the wheat stalks, consistent with the EF grade notation on the holder. The surfaces display an original dark chocolate brown patina with no significant marks, corrosion, or evidence of cleaning.
