US 1983-P Jefferson Nickel, Major Off-Center Strike Mint Error - This United States Jefferson nickel, dated 1983-P, features a major off-center strike mint error. The coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in a cupronickel composition. The design is misaligned on the planchet by approximately 25-30% toward the 1 o'clock position on the obverse. On the obverse, the portrait and the inscriptions IN GOD WE TRUST, the full date 1983, and the P mint mark remain clearly legible. The reverse shows a partial strike of the Monticello building and portions of the peripheral inscriptions E PLURIBUS UNUM, MONTICELLO, FIVE CENTS, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The coin features a plain edge. It is housed in an informal clear plastic flip containing a typed identification card and a blue stamp from a collector or dealer in Townsend, Massachusetts. Diameter: 21.21 mm Weight: 5.0 grams. The coin is in circulated condition, exhibiting even surface wear and light toning. Both the obverse and reverse surfaces show numerous contact marks, small scratches, and bag marks consistent with circulation and handling. The planchet displays some minor edge nicks.
