A Collection of US Buffalo Nickels, 1935-1937 - This collection of United States of America five-cent coins consists of the Buffalo Nickel type, also referred to as the Indian Head Nickel. Struck in a cupro-nickel composition of 75 percent copper and 25 percent nickel, these coins feature the Indian Head obverse with a right-facing Native American profile. The word LIBERTY is inscribed at the upper right edge, and the date is positioned on the shoulder of the bust. Legible dates in this group include 1935, 1936, and 1937, with some dates partially worn. The reverse depicts the Buffalo on Mound design, featuring an American bison facing left with the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM above, and the denomination FIVE CENTS at the base. No mint marks are clearly discernible on these pieces. The collection is in circulated condition, exhibiting moderate to heavy wear. Surfaces are generally dull with no remaining mint luster, showing typical contact marks, scratches, and varied levels of toning. Some coins display evidence of environmental damage, including green oxidation (verdigris) and surface pitting. One coin in the lower right portion of the set shows a significant rim nick.
