CA 1955 1-Cent Bronze Coin with Reverse Die Break Cud - This Royal Canadian Mint 1955 Canada 1-cent bronze coin is a notable mint error specimen. The obverse features the laureate portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA. The reverse depicts the standard maple leaf design with the date 1955 and the word CANADA. A significant raised rim die break, technically known as a cud, is present on the reverse at the 6 o'clock position, extending from the rim into the word CANADA. The coin is housed in a vintage 2x2 cardboard and Mylar flip. The flip features handwritten blue ink inscriptions identifying the specimen as 1955 - 1c - CANADA and noting the errors EXTRA METAL ON REV. and FLAT SPOT OBV. The reverse of the holder bears a handwritten provenance inscription: From LOUIS ARPIN. Circulated. The coin displays a dark copper-brown patina with wear patterns consistent with a grade of fine to very fine. The reverse die break is prominent and well-defined. The obverse exhibits a slight flattening on the high points of the portrait, consistent with the striking pressure variations caused by the reverse die failure. Minor surface marks and localized toning spots are present.
