Bidspirit auction | Lionel Prewar O-Gauge No. 260E
Lionel Prewar O-Gauge No. 260E Steam Locomotive and Lionel Lines Tender - A prewar O-gauge electric model train set manufactured by The Lionel Corporation. The set consists of a No. 260E steam locomotive and a matching Vanderbilt-style tender. The locomotive features a 2-4-2 wheel arrangement with a die-cast metal boiler and frame, accented by brass and copper trim including piping, domes, whistle, and bell. A brass plate on the cab identifies the model as No. 260E, while a plate on the boiler reads Made by The Lionel Corporation New York. The underside of the locomotive chassis contains a brass label stating For O Gauge Track, Lubricate Before Using and When Required, The Lionel Corporation N.Y. It is equipped with an internal reversing unit (E-unit). The tender is constructed of stamped steel and die-cast metal with brass plates on the sides reading Lionel Lines. The pilot of the locomotive is finished in red paint. Both pieces show significant signs of age and play wear. There is extensive paint chipping and loss, most notably on the green-painted frames and along the edges of the black boiler and tender bodies. Surface scratches, dust, and minor oxidation are visible across the set. The pilot truck and certain connecting rods appear slightly bent or loose. The mechanical and electrical components are untested, and their functional status is unknown.
