Bidspirit auction | Three Lionel 2343 Santa Fe
Three Lionel 2343 Santa Fe F3 Diesel Locomotive Units - This lot comprises three Lionel O-gauge diesel locomotive units finished in the iconic Santa Fe Warbonnet livery. The group includes two F3 A-units and one F3 B-unit, forming a standard ABA configuration. The locomotive shells are constructed of plastic with red and silver paint, mounted to die-cast metal chassis and truck assemblies with metal wheels. The powered A-unit features the model number 2343 on the illuminated number boards and typically contains dual motors and an internal battery compartment for the onboard horn. The non-powered B-unit dummy is stamped 2343C on the underside of the chassis. Side markings include Santa Fe in large black letters and a Built by Lionel logo alongside the GM General Motors emblem. The chassis undersides bear stamped marks including 2343-20, The Lionel Corporation, New York, and Made in the U.S. of America. A circular plate on the powered unit provides instructions for the flashlight cell battery used to operate the horn. Good to fair condition. The units exhibit significant signs of play wear and age-related deterioration. There is widespread paint rubbing and loss on the silver-painted areas, particularly along the rooflines and vents. The red paint shows various scuffs, scratches, and small chips throughout. The graphics are largely intact but show minor fading. General surface grime and dust are present. The internal battery compartment shows some age-related oxidation. The mechanical components, motors, and electronic horn have not been tested for functionality.
