Bidspirit auction | Lionel Postwar No. 675 Steam

Lionel Postwar No. 675 Steam Locomotive and No. 2466WX Whistle Tender - A vintage O-gauge model train set manufactured by The Lionel Corporation of New York, NY, during the postwar era. The set consists of a No. 675 steam locomotive and a matching No. 2466WX whistle tender. The locomotive features a die-cast metal boiler and chassis with a 2-6-2 wheel arrangement. It is equipped with an internal electric motor, a smoke generator, and an E-unit reverse mechanism. Identifying marks include the number 675 on the boiler front plate and both cab sides. The underside of the motor housing retains a black and gold metal label that reads O GAUGE LOCOMOTIVE / LUBRICATE AS PER INSTRUCTIONS / THE LIONEL CORPORATION, N.Y. / MADE IN U. S. OF AMERICA. The tender is constructed of die-cast metal and features an internal air whistle mechanism. It is decorated with LIONEL LINES in white serif lettering on the sides and is stamped 2466WX on the underside. The set is in poor to fair vintage condition, showing heavy signs of age, wear, and storage. Both pieces are covered in a significant accumulation of dust and dirt. The locomotive exhibits substantial paint loss, particularly on the edges and the front pilot cowcatcher. The side rods are bent and partially detached. The rear pony truck wheel assembly is detached from the chassis but is present as a loose component. The tender shows significant structural damage, including a hole in the simulated coal pile and a broken or missing section at the rear upper corner. Surface oxidation and paint chipping are visible across the metal surfaces. All internal mechanical and electrical components, including the motor, smoke generator, and whistle, are untested and functionality is not guaranteed.
