Bidspirit auction | A Lionel Model 1656 0-4-0
A Lionel Model 1656 0-4-0 Steam Switcher Locomotive and Matching Lionel Lines Tender - This lot features a Lionel O-gauge post-war era steam locomotive and tender set. The locomotive is a model number 1656, which is an 0-4-0 switcher type. Both the locomotive and the tender are constructed of black die-cast metal. The locomotive is detailed with silver-toned handrails, a bell, and a front-mounted coupler. The cab sides are stamped with the numeric identifier 1656. The underside of the locomotive frame includes the cast lettering THE LIONEL CORP N.Y. MADE IN U.S. OF AMERICA, along with motor components and dual pickup rollers. The matching tender is decorated with the text LIONEL LINES in silver and features a simulated coal load. It is mounted on two four-wheel trucks with a rear coupler. The items are in vintage, played-with condition. Visible paint loss and surface scratching are present on the boiler and tender bodies. Oxidation and surface rust are noted on the metal linkage rods, axles, and couplers. There is significant dust accumulation in crevices. The mechanical linkage appears intact, but the locomotive and tender are untested for electrical or mechanical operation.
