Lionel No. 601 Seaboard Diesel Switcher Locomotive and Original Box - A Lionel No. 601 Seaboard diesel switcher locomotive. The locomotive features a plastic body shell in a black and red livery over a die-cast metal chassis and trucks. Exterior details include white printed SEABOARD lettering on the engine hood, the road number 601 on the cab sides, and a circular Seaboard Railroad heart emblem on the cab sides. The unit is equipped with a brass-colored bell, a roof-mounted horn, and knuckle couplers. The mechanical underside shows a single motor and metal trucks with geared axles. The lot includes the original orange and blue Lionel Corporation cardboard box. Visible markings on the locomotive include SEABOARD and 601. The box end flap is printed with No. 601 DIESEL SWITCHER LOCOMOTIVE LIONEL. The box sides are printed with THE LIONEL CORPORATION and LIONEL ELECTRIC TRAINS MADE IN U. S. OF AMERICA. The locomotive exhibits play wear consistent with age, including surface scuffs and a layer of accumulated dust. Light oxidation is visible on the metal axles and pick-up rollers. The item is untested for electrical operation. The original cardboard box is complete and structurally sound but displays shelf wear, edge rubbing, and adhesive tape residue on one end flap.
