Item Overview

Description:

Whiting & Davis Art Deco Dresden Mesh Purse
An Art Deco Dresden mesh purse by Whiting & Davis. This antique handbag features a fine silver-toned metal mesh body, intricately woven and adorned with a vibrant, repeating geometric pattern in shades of green, yellow, orange, and purple, likely achieved through enamel or paint application on individual links. The bottom edge of the mesh forms a distinctive series of pointed scallops. The rectangular frame, crafted from brass or gilt metal, is decorated with a relief geometric pattern and secures with a clasp featuring two small, round blue cabochon-style stones. A delicate chain handle is attached to the frame. The interior is lined with a cream-colored fabric, possibly satin or silk.

Good antique condition. Noticeable tarnish to the brass/gilt metal frame and chain. Wear to the painted/enameled mesh, consistent with age and use, including some loss of color. The interior fabric lining shows creasing and wear. Structure appears largely intact.
