Joža Uprka (1861-1940) - WOMAN IN FOLK COSTUME FROM VELKÁ 1909 Study of a woman in winter folk costume with a scarf. A painting in which Uprka develops his painterly minimalism, with which he precisely captures not only the cold atmosphere of a winter morning but also the festive occasion for which the woman from the Horňácko region dressed. She is accompanying a new mother to the church for the first time after giving birth, and perhaps for baptism. The color palette of cool tones sharply contrasts with the fiery hues of yellow and red, as if reflecting the contradictions of the moment, where joy mingles with the weight of responsibility for a new member of the rural community.
