Signed and dated lower left ”Hugo Ullik 1872” (the stated dimensions correspond to the artist’s large gallery formats, comparable works ”View of Trosky”; ”View of Střekov”). A classic Romantic veduta of Karlštejn Castle viewed from the northwest. The foreground captures wild nature with boulders and mature trees framing the view of the castle complex towering on its rocky spur. The painting excels in Ullik’s typical sense of detail and atmospheric rendering of the landscape. Condition A. The painting is accompanied by an expert report by PhDr. Šárka Leubnerová, who states among other things: ”The representative painting Karlštejn represents one of the peaks of Ullik’s oeuvre of the 1870s. … The idyllic natural mood is further enhanced by a small narrative with a resting girl, which strengthens the emotional impact of the entire work.”
