The offered canvas is a masterly example of marinism by Grigoriy Kapustin, one of the most important pupils and followers of Ivan Aivazovsky. The composition captures a dynamic scene with a steamer and a sailing ship on the open sea, where the artist brilliantly uses a low horizon to enhance the monumentality of the sky and the restless water surface.
