Rudolf Jelinek (1880-1959) - Rudolf Jelinek (1880-1959). MUSICAL IDYLL IN A BOUDOIR Oil on canvas, 62×81 cm (73×93 cm). Signed lower left ”R. Jelínek”. A representative example of the mature figurative painting of Rudolf Jelínek, a Brno-born artist and important representative of Central European Realism with Impressionist elements. The painting captures a sensuous scene in an interior, where a reclining female nude is accompanied by another figure playing a mandolin or lute. The composition is built on a bold handling of light and colour, the contrast of the whiteness of the bed linen and the pale skin of the nude with the colourful bouquet of flowers in the left part and the dark drapery in the background, which lend the entire scene vivacity and dynamism. Jelínek`s brushwork is here relaxed, with evident impasto layers of paint, which is characteristic of his late oeuvre. The overall atmosphere of the work evokes calm, contentment and a celebration of feminine beauty, which were frequent and highly sought-after themes in the artist`s repertoire.
