(LOOK–ABSOLUTE–O.K.) 1988 Oil on hardboard, 27×19 cm (52×51.5 cm), signed and dated on the front ”JAN WOLF 1988” (lower right); on the verso a printed label ”Atelier Wolf” and a manuscript author`s inscription: title of the work, date, dimensions. Framed. An expressive portrait study, characteristic of Jan Wolf in its rawness and emphasis on the inner psychology of the model. The artist uses impasto layers of paint in dark blue and black, which are dramatically illuminated by accents of red, forming the contours of the face and lips. The title ”Koukej-Absolutno-O.K.” references Wolf`s specific sense of humour and his connection to the Brno bohemian and Surrealist circles (e.g. the group Stir up). This is a work that carries a theatricality influenced by the artist`s close relationship to the theatre milieu. Condition A.
