HUTTERITE STOVE TILE AND ITS COPY - Western Slovakia, Košolná, ca 1650, and a modern copy by Ignác Bizmayer A cornice stove tile of irregular shape with a relief rose motif with buds and a raised rim, green-glazed ceramics. Together with: a slightly simplified variation of the same tile from the workshop of the Slovak ceramist Ignác Bizmayer (1922–2019). The tile probably comes from the excavations of Heřman Landsfeld. I. Bizmayer was born on 20 April 1922 in Košolná into a family with Hutterite (Habán) roots. In his family home and on the adjacent plot, the renowned ceramist and collector H. Landsfeld discovered rare finds of Hutterite faience in 1932 and 1934. He noticed the talented young Ignác and persuaded him to study at the ceramics school in Modra. There Bizmayer learned all the technical and artistic processes of ceramic production. He became a renowned painter but also devoted himself to ceramic sculpture. 20x17x4 cm / 19x17x4 cm Unmarked. Condition A-C. Glued corner of the original tile.
