PAINTED PLATE AND INKWELL - 19th century A shallow faience plate with a wavy rim, white-glazed, the entire surface covered with a figural genre scene in a landscape, painted in light cobalt. Two women washing laundry against the background of a sub-mountain village. Blue brush mark on the underside. Italy, probably Savona, 19th century. Diameter 32 cm. Together with: a faience inkwell of rectangular solid form with a protruding compartment for writing implements, in the upper surface two circular openings for the inkwell and the pounce pot, the vessels are fitted with lids. Six smaller holes for quills. On the white glaze, a painted floral décor in muffle colours with a manganese outline. 16.1×14.4×6.5 cm. Unmarked. Probably France, Strasbourg, c. 1800. Condition B-C. Minor abrasions, chips, craquelure in the glaze (more on the inkwell).
