Joachim Weingart (also Weingarten) - Polish painter of Jewish origin. After graduating from high school in Lviv, he began studying drawing at the School of Artistic Industry in Weimar in 1912. In 1914, he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Thanks to a scholarship funded by Karol Katz, he left for Berlin in 1916. During his second stay in Berlin in 1922 at Aleksander Archipenko's studio, he met Zygmunt Menkes, with whom he left for Paris in 1923, where they rented a room together at the Hotel Medical. There, they were neighbors with Eugeniusz Zak and Marc Chagall. Weingart had two individual exhibitions in Poland: in Lviv (1923) and Warsaw (1932). In Paris, together with Alfred Aberdam, Leon Weissberg and Zygmunt Menkes, they created the - Group of Four. Their joint exhibition took place in 1925 at the - Au Sacre du Printemps gallery, run by Jan Sliwinski. 1930 he signed a contract with the art dealer Rene Gimpel. After divorcing his wife, the daughter of a French doctor, the artist fell into depression. After the outbreak of World War II, he was still in Paris. Arrested by the Germans on March 30, 1942, he was interned in the camp in Pithiviers and on July 17, 1942, transported to Auschwitz where he was murdered.
