First edition, illustrated with 98 hand-colored plates, including 90 of decorations and 8 of costumes, among which the portrait of Leopold I as Knight of the Order of the Garter (bound at p. 100). This “fine work, pleasantly presented and well illustrated” (Saffroy) is by the Belgian archivist Jean-François-Nicolas Loumyer (1801-1875), who published it under the name of the bookseller Auguste Wahlen. It is dedicated to European orders of chivalry, as well as Brazilian, Persian, Sudanese, Turkish, etc. Two supplements were published later, in 1855 and 1869. Ce « beau livre, agréablement présenté et bien illustré » (Saffroy) est l’œuvre de l’archiviste belge Jean-François-Nicolas Loumyer (1801-1875), qui le publia sous le nom du libraire Auguste Wahlen. Il est consacré aux ordres de chevalerie européens, ainsi qu’aux ordres brésiliens, persans, soudanais, turcs, etc. Deux suppléments furent publiés par la suite, en 1855 et 1869. Ouvrage fondamental et remarquable par ses gravures en couleurs.
