Antique American Golden Oak Larkin Soap Company Secretary Desk - This American Golden Oak secretary desk is attributed to the Larkin Soap Company, a prominent manufacturer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The piece is constructed from oak and features a decorative superstructure with a shaped cresting centered by an applied foliate and scroll-carved cartouche. A rectangular mirror is positioned below the crest, flanked by two small cantilevered shelves supported by turned spindles. The drop-front writing surface is embellished with large, applied C-scroll and leaf-motif carvings. When lowered, the fall-front is supported by internal metal chains and reveals an interior fitted with two tiers of ten pigeonhole compartments for organization. The lower portion of the desk consists of two open, full-width shelves terminating in a scalloped lower apron. A decorative metal keyhole escutcheon is present on the fall-front. No manufacturer marks are visible; a small inventory sticker numbered 0013 is located on the mirror face. Height: 62 inches Width: 30 inches Depth: 12 inches.
