19th Century Continental Provincial Style Mixed Wood Two Door Armoire - This 19th-century Continental Provincial style armoire is constructed of mixed woods. The two solid doors feature four inset panels with highly figured wood grain consistent with walnut or ash, while the primary frame and interior surfaces are a lighter wood such as fruitwood or pine. The piece is designed with a prominent stepped cornice and rests on shaped bracket feet. The interior is currently fitted with a single transverse metal hanging rod and a central vertical support member notched with wooden pegs for adjustable shelving. The right-hand door has a single centered keyhole, and the doors are mounted on recessed hinges. No maker marks or factory stamps are present. The piece appears to be of one-piece construction, though armoires of this size are frequently designed to be disassembled for transport.
