Antique Chinese Ningxia Hand-Knotted Wool Rug - This hand-knotted Oriental rug is attributed to the Ningxia region of China, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The rug is constructed with a wool pile on a cotton foundation. The design features a central circular floral medallion set against an open camel-toned field. The field is further decorated with asymmetrical arrangements of vases containing flowering branches and scattered floral sprays. The composition is enclosed by multiple borders, including a narrow inner Greek key meander fret border, a main border with alternating stylized floral and geometric motifs, and a solid outer guard band. The color palette consists of a camel and tan field with accents in navy blue, light blue, and cream. A transcription of characters associated with the piece identifies the origin as Ningxia.
