Italian Renaissance Revival Style Carved Walnut Storage Chest - An Italian Renaissance Revival style storage chest, also known as a cassone, constructed from a hardwood such as walnut or mahogany with a reddish-brown stain and semi-gloss finish. The rectangular form features a hinged lid opening to a single deep compartment lined with a secondary utility wood. The front panel is ornamented with a central carved cartouche containing scrolled foliate motifs, flanked by recessed panels and bordered by carved leaf-motif molding. The corners are detailed with prominent carved pilasters featuring acanthus leaf designs. The lid is secured by three surface-mounted metal strap hinges with a dark, antiqued finish. No locking mechanism is visible on the exterior front. The piece is supported by four carved paw feet. No maker marks, labels, or signatures are present.
